About Counselling with me

It is both my passion and privilege to work with adults and young people (13 +) experiencing a wide range of psychological and emotional issues.

I am trained to a BA (Hons) Degree level in Humanistic Counselling & Psychotherapy which has laid the foundations for my approach.   I focus on understanding and exploring your unique world and how you perceive it.  You may want to address a specific issue and/or together we could work to understand your values and beliefs, your relationship with yourself, with others, and with the outside world.  I work collaboratively with my clients as I believe you are the expert on you and that therapy is done with you, not to you!

I have a specific interest in PTSD and a therapy called the Rewind Technique that seeks to relieve sufferers of their symptoms.  For more information please click here.

I continue to attend regular training sessions and workshops that apply to the issues I work with to deepen my knowledge and expertise.  I am currently undertaking a Diploma in Life Coaching.

Alongside my private practice I volunteer as a counsellor for a charity supporting young people aged 13 to 25 and previously I was a counsellor for a charity supporting carers.

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work within their Code of Ethics and to their Standards of Professional Practice. I attend regular clinical supervision and I am also fully insured.

What to expect from me

I offer both short and long term therapy; the number of sessions will depend on the issues you bring and the pace you would like to work at. This can be discussed at our initial meeting.

I will strive to provide you with a relationship where you will feel safe to talk openly about your inner most thoughts and feelings in a confidential and secure environment. Hopefully the therapeutic relationship that we will build will allow you to understand yourself better.

I enjoy working creatively with clients (if they so wish) at any stage in the relationship. I appreciate that it may be overwhelming in the first few sessions to speak to a stranger for a full 50 minutes and if this is the case for you, working creatively can help alleviate some of this anxiety .

My promise to you

I won't try to fix you or give you advice, I won't tell you what to do or pretend I have all the answers. I may however remind you that you are not broken and will support you in figuring out how to make the hard stuff easier to live with.

I will listen carefully, empathetically and without judgement. I will treat you with respect and integrity. I will tailor my therapeutic approach to support the changes you wish to make to the way you think, feel, behave and the ways you relate to others.
